Why Oryx Nova
Why Oryx Nova, and not another machine or film.
Oryx Nova is a registered brand of made-to-measure device protection: a cutting station at the counter and TPU, TPH and EPU protective film, cut on demand to the outline of the customer's own device from a cloud device library, for every screen up to 18-inch laptop screens. This page sets that model beside the four other ways a shop can supply protection, boxed pre-cut protectors stocked per model, tempered glass stocked per model, a generic cutting machine with a small template set, and film bought without a station, and judges each on the same criteria, so the buyer can decide with his own eyes.

Five points to judge any supplier on.
Whoever you buy from, judge the supplier on these five points. They decide what your shop sells for years, and every row of the comparison below comes back to one of them.
Device coverage, kept current

The comparison
Five ways to supply protection, twelve criteria.
Each cell in the Oryx Nova column is a statement the brand makes about itself on this site. Each cell in the four other columns is what the category is by construction, or, where the answer varies from one seller to the next, the honest "depends on the supplier". No brand is named and no figure is given beyond the owner's own facts.
- 01
The missing model
- Oryx Nova
- Every model in the cloud device library, and manual dimensions for a device that is not in it: the piece is cut for the device on the counter.
- Boxed pre-cut protectors
- The models the shop chose to stock; the drawer decides which customer can be served.
- Tempered-glass stock
- The models stocked; a glass reference exists per model and per variant, so coverage is what the shelf holds.
- Generic cutter with a small template set
- Depends on the supplier: a small template set covers what it was loaded with, and a device outside it needs manual dimensions, if the machine accepts them.
- Film without a station
- The film covers nothing by itself; coverage is whatever the shop's own cutter or hand-trimming can do.
- 02
A device launched this week
- Oryx Nova
- The cloud device library is updated as new models launch; until the outline is there, manual dimensions cut it. Nothing to wait for.
- Boxed pre-cut protectors
- The reference has to be made, boxed and shipped before the model can be served.
- Tempered-glass stock
- As with boxed protectors: a glass reference is produced per model before it can be stocked.
- Generic cutter with a small template set
- Depends on the supplier's update habit; a template set is as current as its last load.
- Film without a station
- Depends entirely on the cutter the shop already owns.
- 03
Stock and the capital tied in it
- Oryx Nova
- Nothing is cut in advance: the shop stocks sheets of film, blades and mats, not a piece per model.
- Boxed pre-cut protectors
- A piece per model, bought in advance; what does not sell stays on the shelf as capital.
- Tempered-glass stock
- The same per-model stock, in a rigid material that is stored and handled with care.
- Generic cutter with a small template set
- Also cut on demand, so the stock argument is shared; the difference is coverage, film, training and resupply.
- Film without a station
- Sheets only, so little stock; but no station, no library and no method behind them.
- 04
Fit on curved edges, notches and camera cutouts
- Oryx Nova
- Cut to the outline of the exact model: dimensions, curves, notches and camera cutouts matched to that device; flexible TPU, TPH or EPU film follows the edge.
- Boxed pre-cut protectors
- Cut for a model in general, by the supplier, before the device is on the counter.
- Tempered-glass stock
- Rigid by nature; on a curved edge the fit is whatever the glass reference for that model allows.
- Generic cutter with a small template set
- Depends on the outline data in the template set and on the film it cuts: a near-match outline gives a near-match fit.
- Film without a station
- A universal sheet is trimmed by hand, and the fit is the hand's.
- 05
Beyond the phone: foldables, tablets, watches, laptops
- Oryx Nova
- Every screen up to 18-inch laptop screens, from the same library and the same station: phones, foldables, tablets, watches, laptops, cameras, handhelds, earbud cases.
- Boxed pre-cut protectors
- Each device class is another set of references to stock; depth per class is the shop's choice and the shop's cost.
- Tempered-glass stock
- Stocked mostly for phones; other device classes depend on what exists as a glass reference.
- Generic cutter with a small template set
- Depends on the cutting bed and the template set; many small cutters stop at phone or tablet size.
- Film without a station
- Only what the shop's own cutter can handle.
- 06
Film material, finishes and tiers
- Oryx Nova
- TPU, TPH and EPU films in clear, matte, privacy, anti-reflective and anti-blue-light finishes, back films (3D, leather-look, custom print), tablet and laptop films, across the Signature, Premium, Standard and Basic tiers.
- Boxed pre-cut protectors
- The finish depends on the supplier's range per model; a privacy or matte piece must exist as its own boxed reference to be sold.
- Tempered-glass stock
- Glass finishes exist as separate stocked references per model; no back or body film.
- Generic cutter with a small template set
- Depends on the film the supplier sells or the shop sources; often one clear sheet type.
- Film without a station
- The sheet the shop buys, of whatever origin; consistency from one batch to the next depends on the seller.
- 07
How quality is checked
- Oryx Nova
- Raw material tested before it is cut; every piece and every part checked individually, not by sample; production against the Oryx Nova specification, with the partner factory certified compliant with it. If it is not right, it does not ship.
- Boxed pre-cut protectors
- Depends on the supplier: a boxed piece is checked by that supplier's own method, which the shop rarely sees.
- Tempered-glass stock
- Depends on the supplier; the shop checks the unit at unboxing.
- Generic cutter with a small template set
- Depends on the supplier of the machine and, separately, on the supplier of the film: two sources, two methods.
- Film without a station
- Depends on the seller of the sheet; batch-to-batch consistency is the buyer's own risk.
- 08
Blades, mats and film resupply
- Oryx Nova
- Blades and cutting mats are supplied with the machine; the film comes in sheets and is reordered through the same contact as the first quote, checked piece by piece like the first sheets.
- Boxed pre-cut protectors
- A reorder per reference, model by model.
- Tempered-glass stock
- The same reorder per reference, model by model.
- Generic cutter with a small template set
- Depends on the supplier: consumables may or may not be bundled, and the blade and film sources may be separate.
- Film without a station
- The shop sources sheets itself, each time, with no station supplier behind it.
- 09
Training, onboarding and after-sales
- Oryx Nova
- Training and onboarding included with every station: teams trained to cut and apply before the first customer walks in; manuals and installation guides shared; after-sales support reachable after installation.
- Boxed pre-cut protectors
- No machine, so no training; application skill is the shop's own.
- Tempered-glass stock
- No training; application is the shop's own gesture.
- Generic cutter with a small template set
- Depends on the supplier: learning curve, calibration and support vary from one seller to the next.
- Film without a station
- None: the sheet comes with no method and no one to call.
- 10
When a fitted piece needs refreshing
- Oryx Nova
- Coverage by re-cut: the station cuts the same device again, under terms that apply by point of sale; the UV lamp completes the application at the counter.
- Boxed pre-cut protectors
- A replacement is another boxed unit, if the reference is in stock.
- Tempered-glass stock
- A replacement is another glass unit, if the reference is in stock.
- Generic cutter with a small template set
- Depends on the supplier's terms, if any are written.
- Film without a station
- Another sheet, at the shop's cost.
- 11
The business behind the counter
- Oryx Nova
- A distributor model: the distributor buys the stations, deploys them across its shops and earns on the stations placed and on the film reordered as they cut; territory, marketing assets and the brand at the counter come with the programme.
- Boxed pre-cut protectors
- A resale line: margin per box, the range decided by the supplier's catalogue.
- Tempered-glass stock
- The same resale line as boxed protectors.
- Generic cutter with a small template set
- A machine purchase; whether film, training and a programme exist behind it depends on the supplier.
- Film without a station
- A consumable purchase with no programme.
- 12
Switching from what the shop uses today
- Oryx Nova
- Oryx Nova handles onboarding and training; the shop keeps selling during the change and its film supply becomes part of the Oryx Nova network.
- Boxed pre-cut protectors
- Existing boxes can be sold down while the station takes over the models they do not cover.
- Tempered-glass stock
- Glass can stay on the shelf for the customers who ask for it: Oryx Nova sells film only and does not replace a glass line.
- Generic cutter with a small template set
- The template set and the film source are what change; the counter gesture, select the model, cut, apply, is the same.
- Film without a station
- The shop gains a station, a library and a method it did not have.
Honest boundary: Oryx Nova sells protective film only, no tempered glass, and makes no claim about impact resistance. What the film is sold on is the fit to the exact outline, the finishes, and a self-healing surface on the films that list it.
According to the Oryx Nova sheet, reviewed on September 16, 2026. Pricing of the stations and the film is given with the written quote, not on this page.
The objections
Eight things a buyer says, and the honest answer to each.
The objections below are the ones heard when a shop weighs a cutting station against what it uses today. Each answer stands alone; where a fact is the owner's to give, the answer says so and sends the buyer to the quote.
"Boxed protectors cost less per unit."
A boxed protector is priced per unit; a shop pays for it per reference, in advance, for models that may never walk in, and still turns away the customer whose model is not in the drawer. An Oryx Nova station cuts the piece for the device on the counter, from a sheet, so there is no box per model to stock, write off or run out of: the shop stocks film, not guesses. Pricing of the stations and the film is given with the written quote, not on this page.
"My customers ask for tempered glass."
Oryx Nova sells protective film only, no tempered glass, and a station does not take the glass off a shelf a shop wants to keep. What the station adds is the customer glass serves less well: the curved edge, the foldable, the watch, the laptop screen, and the model that has no glass reference yet. The film is TPU, TPH or EPU, cut to the exact outline of that device, in clear, matte, privacy, anti-reflective and anti-blue-light finishes. On impact resistance Oryx Nova makes no claim, and neither should the shop.
"A cheaper generic cutter does the same thing."
The cut is the same gesture; what differs is what is behind it. Judge both on the same five points: is every model in the library, with manual dimensions for the one that is not; is the library updated as new devices launch; does it cut every screen up to 18-inch laptop screens; is the film checked piece by piece from tested raw material, with blades and cutting mats supplied and sheets reordered through one contact; and is there training, onboarding, manuals and after-sales support behind the machine. Oryx Nova states its answer to each on this site. For a generic cutter the honest answer to each is "depends on the supplier": ask the seller to state it in writing.
"I already have a cutter; I will just buy sheets."
Film bought alone brings a sheet and nothing else: no device library, no training, no one to call, and a fit that is only as good as the outline and the hand that trims it. Oryx Nova film comes in sheets, checked piece by piece from tested raw material, and it is sold as part of a model: the station that cuts it, the cloud library it is cut from, the blades and mats supplied, the onboarding and the after-sales behind it. Whether Oryx Nova supplies sheets to a shop that runs another station is a question for the quote.
"What if the model is not in the library?"
Then the station cuts it from manual dimensions. Every model in the cloud device library can be cut, and a device that is not in it, a regional variant, an older model, something rare, is cut from the dimensions entered at the station. The library itself is updated as new devices launch. No customer is sent away for a missing size.
"Film bubbles and lifts at the edges."
Bubbles and lifting come from a piece that does not match the outline, or from an application done without a method. An Oryx Nova piece is cut to the exact outline of the device on the counter, dimensions, curves, notches and camera cutouts matched to that model, so the edge sits where the edge is; the film is laid down from one side and settles bubble-free, the way every partner is trained to apply it before the first customer walks in; the UV lamp completes the application for an even, fully set finish; and if a fitted piece ever needs refreshing, coverage works by re-cut, under terms that apply by point of sale.
"A new phone launches next week; my supplier takes weeks to ship the box."
With a boxed or glass line, the new model is served once the reference has been produced, boxed and shipped, and the first customers with that phone are served elsewhere. With an Oryx Nova station, the cloud device library is updated as new devices launch, and until the outline is there the piece is cut from manual dimensions: the shop sells protection for the new model from the sheet it already has.
"And when something breaks: a blade, a bad sheet, the machine itself?"
Blades and cutting mats are supplied with the machine, and the film comes in sheets reordered through the same contact as the first quote, checked piece by piece like the first sheets. Every station ships with a warranty and after-sales support, training and onboarding are included, manuals and installation guides are shared and stay available, and Oryx Nova stays reachable once the station is installed. The exact warranty terms and lead times are confirmed with the written quote.
The case, sentence by sentence
Seven sentences a shop can repeat as they are.
Each sentence below stands alone and is written from the shop's side of the counter. None is a testimonial; they are the argument of this page, one line at a time.
01We stop guessing which models will walk in: the station cuts the piece for the device on the counter, from a sheet, so there is no box per model to buy in advance, write off or run out of.
02Every model in the cloud device library, manual dimensions for the one that is not in it, and every screen up to 18-inch laptop screens: we do not send a customer away for a missing size.
03The film is TPU, TPH or EPU, cut to the exact outline of the device, with curves, notches and camera cutouts matched to that model, which is the thing a boxed piece or a rigid glass cannot promise on a curved edge.
04Oryx Nova starts from tested raw material and checks every piece, part by part, not by sample; if it is not right, it does not ship. That is a method we can put our name on at the counter.
05Blades and mats come with the machine, the film comes in sheets from one contact, training and onboarding are included, and there is a warranty and someone to call after the sale; a generic cutter or a bare sheet gives us none of that in writing.
06We keep the glass on the shelf for the customers who ask for it; Oryx Nova sells film only, and the station serves the customers the glass serves less well: the curved edge, the foldable, the watch, the laptop, the model with no glass reference yet.
Judge it on five points we can check ourselves: how the film is controlled, how current the library is, whether stock really disappears, what training and after-sales exist, and whether resupply is reliable. Oryx Nova writes its answer to each; the others say "it depends".
